Privacy Policy
Preview version, in effect from 14 October 2026.
Ekami is someone to think with. To do that well, it remembers what you tell it, which makes your privacy the most important thing we look after. This policy explains, in plain words, what we keep, why, who else touches it, and how you stay in charge.
Ekami is in an invite-only preview for adults in Canada. It is free during the preview.
1. Who we are
Ekami (ekami.ai) is made by Synexiom Labs Inc., a company based on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Synexiom Labs Inc. is responsible for your personal information in Ekami.
- Privacy contact: evolve@synexiomlabs.com
- Person accountable for privacy: Meghraj Solanki, co-founder
2. What we collect and why
We collect only what Ekami needs to work, to keep you safe, and to learn whether the preview is helping.
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your email address; the name you want Ekami to call you (optional); your country; when you confirmed you are an adult and agreed to these terms; your time zone (from your browser); your settings | To sign you in, talk to you by name, show crisis lines, get times right, and confirm you are an adult |
| Conversations | Every message you send and every reply; for each reply, how much AI processing it used and which model wrote it; the web pages Ekami cited | So Ekami can reply, remember, and show you your history; to understand cost and quality |
| What Ekami learns | See section 3 | So Ekami gets to know you over time |
| Search data | Numeric versions of conversation summaries and notes ("embeddings") | So Ekami can find related past conversations and notes |
| Safety records | That our automated check flagged possible crisis language, how serious it looked, and whether you hid the help note. Never your words | To show you help when it matters, and to check the safety check works |
| Things you told Ekami about | Dated events you mention, such as "job interview Thursday 2 pm", with your words; your check-in settings and quiet hours | So Ekami can ask how it went afterwards, if you want that |
| Notification details | If you turn on notifications: your device's notification address and keys | To send you a notification |
| Preview feedback | An optional weekly 1 to 5 rating of how well Ekami gets you, with an optional comment; one-tap feedback on check-ins; whether insight labels fit | To learn whether Ekami is actually helping |
| Operational records | Errors (which part of the app, the error message, your account ID); daily usage and cost totals | To fix problems and keep the service running |
We do not collect your contacts, your location (beyond the country you give us), or anything from your microphone or camera. Ekami is text only. We do not sell your personal information and we do not show ads.
3. How the AI works with your data
Replies. When you send a message, Ekami sends the conversation, and the things it remembers that are relevant, to an AI model run by Anthropic, which writes the reply. Sometimes Ekami checks a fact on the web; when it does, a search query based on your conversation goes to Anthropic's web search tool.
Reflection after each conversation. When a conversation ends, the AI reads it back and writes down what it learned:
- Notes about you, each tied to a quote of your own words, so you can see where it came from.
- Core memories: things that seem central to you. Kept only if you confirm them.
- Insights, in your own words.
- Open threads Ekami might come back to.
- Stances: how Ekami tries to be with you.
- Things coming up that you mentioned, so it can ask how they went.
- A private journal about how Ekami itself did in the conversation.
- A title and summary of the conversation.
You can see all of this on the "What I know" page, except the journal, which is included when you download your data.
Search data stays with us. The embeddings are made inside Ekami's own servers with an open-source model. They are not sent to anyone else.
Not used to train AI models. We do not use your conversations to train AI models, and Anthropic's commercial terms say data sent through its API is not used to train its models. Anthropic keeps what it processes only for a limited period set by those terms, for safety and abuse monitoring.
4. Sensitive information
People think out loud about hard things: health, relationships, faith, sexuality, money. Your conversations may include information that the law treats as sensitive.
- You choose what to share. Ekami does not ask for sensitive details it doesn't need, and it never records a health condition, diagnosis, sexuality, religion, ethnicity or political view about you unless you said it about yourself.
- When you join, we ask for your explicit consent to process sensitive information you choose to share. You can withdraw it at any time (see section 9).
- Health appointments you mention get a check-in only if you ask for one.
5. Who processes your data
We use a small number of service providers. Each sees only what it needs.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and sign-in | Everything stored, listed in section 2 | Canada (Montréal) |
| Vercel | Runs Ekami's code, including the search model | Data passing through while a request is handled; technical logs | Canada (Montréal) |
| Anthropic | AI models: one writes replies and reflections, another checks messages for signs of crisis | The conversation and relevant memories, as each task needs | United States |
| Anthropic's web search | Checks facts on the web when Ekami decides to | A search query based on your conversation | United States |
| Resend | Email: sign-in links, check-in emails if you choose them | Your email address and the email | United States |
| Notification services (Apple, Google, Mozilla) | Delivering notifications, if you turn them on | Only "How did it go?", never what it is about | Varies |
We will disclose information only if the law requires it (for example, a valid court order), and we will tell you if we lawfully can. If Synexiom Labs is ever sold or merged, your information would move only under this policy, and we would tell you first.
6. Where it is stored
Your data is stored in Canada (Montréal), and each person can reach only their own data. AI replies, reflections and the crisis check are processed by Anthropic in the United States, and email by Resend in the United States. When data is processed in another country, that country's authorities may be able to access it under its laws.
7. How long we keep it
- Until you delete it. We keep your conversations and what Ekami has learned while your account exists, because remembering is the point.
- Deleting a conversation deletes it and what was learned only from it. Its safety records (never your words) stay until you delete your account.
- Deleting your account deletes your account and all your data. Backups may hold deleted data for up to 30 days before they are overwritten.
- Operational records (errors and usage totals) are kept for up to 12 months.
8. Your controls
In the app you can:
- See every note, insight, open thread and stance, on "What I know".
- Correct, keep or forget any note, and confirm or decline core memories.
- Delete any conversation, and what was learned only from it.
- Download all your data.
- Delete everything: your account and all your data, at any time.
- Turn check-ins off, choose quiet hours, and turn notifications off.
9. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, and withdraw consent. Most of this you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email evolve@synexiomlabs.com; we reply within 30 days.
Withdrawing consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account. Ekami can't work without remembering what you share, so withdrawing consent ends the service for you, and we delete your data.
Complaints. Please tell us first; we want to fix it. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
10. The crisis check
Every message you send is checked by an AI model for signs of a personal crisis, such as thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
- If a message is flagged, Ekami shows crisis lines for your country and a reminder of your emergency number. You can hide the note.
- Ekami is instructed to respond with care and to point you toward people who can help.
- We record that a flag happened and how serious it looked, never your words.
- No person watches conversations as they happen. Ekami is not an emergency service. If you are in danger, call 911 or call or text 9-8-8.
11. Notifications and check-ins
If you turn notifications on, your browser gives us a device address and keys so we can send notifications. They only ever say "How did it go?", never what it is about. Check-in emails, if you choose them, are the same. One switch turns all check-ins off, and quiet hours hold them during the times you choose.
12. Adults only
Ekami is for adults. When you join, you confirm you are an adult where you live (18 or over, or 19 where that is the age of majority). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn someone younger has an account, we delete it.
13. Security
- Your data is stored in Canada with access rules that let each person reach only their own data.
- Connections are encrypted, and stored data is encrypted.
- The keys that can reach all data are kept only on our servers, never in the app on your device.
- Who can see your conversations. The founders could technically access the database. Our rule: nobody reads your conversations except (a) when you ask us to, for example for support, (b) when the law requires it, or (c) to investigate a specific safety or security incident, and every such access is logged. Our own admin view shows usage counts and costs, never what anyone said.
- No system is perfect. If a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
14. Changes
We will update this policy as Ekami changes, and before any paid plan. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and ask for your agreement again where needed.
